Argentine tango has so much to offer this world, but we need to work together in new ways to claim its potential.
Dear tango friends and colleagues,
We’re thrilled by the response to the new paper, “Judgment and Acceptance while dancing Argentine Tango: A data-driven approach to explore the inner experience of tango dancers,” from the Inner Experience study.
It’s exciting to see how many people from all over the world have read and engaged with it, and to be part of the conversations it is sparking. We’d love to hear how it’s shaping your experience on the dance floor, please reply and share!
What are you interested in hearing about next?
Are you a local teacher?
Local teachers are the lifeblood of tango, but they can face lots of challenges. If you teach tango locally, or facilitate local practice/learning, we’d love to hear from you.
Here are a few questions about your work. With this information we hope to discover ways to build that rising tide to lift all boats! ⛵ Please take 10 minutes to answer the Local Tango Teacher’s Survey by May 15th.
Why tango R&D matters
High quality research about Argentine tango is important. Research can help us chart a grounded collective course in a world beyond our individual opinions, stories, and ideas about how things should be.
Insights from research can help prospective dancers to understand the benefits of tango. It can help us understand each other better — and create programs, events, organizations and systems that better meet community members’ needs. Data can help teachers, organizers, and artists access grants and other sources of funding.
Creating new knowledge through research is hard work. Over the past four years, the tango community has collaborated on complete two ambitious research projects: the Inner Experience of Tango research study and the World Tango COVID research study. Each has taken hundreds of volunteer hours.
Applying research insights to create meaningful tango innovations is also work. Whether these are new approaches to education, new kinds of gatherings, new business models or products, innovation requires investment. It takes energy to conceive, develop, and test the innovation, and to publish/socialize the results.
We’ve made insights from R&D efforts freely available to benefit tango dancers and community developers everywhere.
